Living a Life of Worship

FGHT Devotional

We’ve all heard the phrase, it’s not what you say, but it’s what you do. This saying applies in the case of worship. Worship is about allegiance and commitment to God. Worship isn’t limited to a song, or a moment during worship service, it is so much more than that. The greatest desire of true worshippers should be to live a life that is completely committed to God and to what He requires of us. It means that we willingly sanctify ourselves from the things of this world and make Holiness our greatest aspiration.

Jesus said that the Father is seeking for true worshippers (John 4:23), so by contrast, there must be those who say they are worshippers, but are not. The biggest hindrance to living a life of worship is a lifestyle full of compromise, sin, and immorality. These are those individuals who “serve God” with their lips, but have not given Him their full heart (Isaiah 29:13). However, we can’t just talk a good game, we must be willing to make the sacrifices that show we are completely sold out to God. Worship is a lifestyle choice and we must make the decision to live whole-heartedly for our God.

True worship takes place in spirit and in truth. One must have the Holy Spirit and be led by him to live the life that God requires of us. The Holy Spirit leads us, guides us and gives us the ability to stay committed to the will of God.  He will also make us aware of the things that we should let go. The Holy Spirit is crucial in our walk with the Lord, and in helping us to live a life that is pleasing to our Lord.

Apostle Paul says in Romans 12:1 “I beseech you therefor brethren by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service.” The English word worship, from the Old English word worthship, tells us that God is worthy of our whole lives, not just a song or a moment in our worship service.  True worshippers live holy lives.

Let us pray:  Heavenly Father my greatest desire is to please you in every aspect of my life.  Make me a true worshipper, for You alone are worthy to be praised.  Amen.
