I was watching a dad and his son at the pool one summer afternoon. The little boy stood at the edge, toes gripping the concrete, staring nervously at the water below. His dad was already in the pool, smiling with open arms. “Come on, buddy, jump! I’ve got you.”
But the boy hesitated. He leaned forward, then stepped back again. The water looked deep, and his courage felt small. Still, his father stayed there, patient and ready. Finally, with a deep breath and a little squeal, the boy leapt, and sure enough, his dad caught him safely in his arms. I couldn’t help thinking, “That’s exactly how God invites us into His will. He’s like that loving father in the pool, asking us to trust Him enough to jump. Whether the jump feels small or scary, He’s right there, ready to catch us”.
Sometimes we stand at the edge, overthinking the what-ifs. What if I fail? What if I heard God wrong? What if it’s too much for me? But here’s the truth: God’s Will isn’t something we have to chase down. It’s already moving toward us. Like that father in the pool, God positions Himself right where we’ll land, ready, steady, and waiting with open arms.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV) says, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” That verse reminds me that I don’t have to see the whole pool or know exactly how deep the water goes. I just need to trust that the One calling me to jump already knows what’s beneath the surface, and He’s strong enough to hold me when I land.
So don’t be afraid. If you feel God calling you to step out, to move, to trust again, just jump. His will is already in motion, and He’s right there to catch you every single time.
Prayer
Lord, sometimes Your plans stretch me beyond what I can see or understand. Help me to trust You like a child trusts their father, to leap when You say,”Jump”. Thank You for always catching me, even when I waver in faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
