“Ring!” goes the doorbell. You step out onto your front porch, and you see a truck rapidly driving away from your house. You look down and see that the driver left a gift just for you. It appears to be a pirate’s chest, and it has your name on it. You tentatively open the chest and what you see bedazzles you. Filled to the brim of your treasure chest are rare jewels that sparkle like the sun. The trunk is filled with the most precious and the finest gemstones on earth, such as rubies, sapphires, diamonds, pearls, and emeralds. Inside are also gold, silver, and gold bullion. As you quickly move your treasure chest inside for safety, you squeal with joy that someone has left this treasure chest filled with valuable content just for you. As you begin to examine each precious gem and coin, you glorify God that He has blessed you in this way.
Sound like a farfetched story to you? “I would love for something like that to happen to me,” you say. “Man, I would be so happy and feel so blessed if I had a treasure chest like that.” “Why, I would be so rich that I wouldn’t know what to do with myself.” Well, guess what. I have great news for you. You have just such a gift from God. It’s called the Holy Bible.
The Bible is a collection of sixty-six books filled with history, mystery, poetry, prophecy, promise, love, murders, wars, battles, conflict, and so much more. These are the most precious gemstones that relate to life and love. The Bible’s contents are far more valuable than natural gemstones because the Bible holds the key to eternal life.
John 5:39-40 (KJV)
39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
Jesus Christ is the Living Word of God and He is the answer to every situation that has ever and will ever happen in your life.
John 1:1-4 (KJV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
The Bible is a treasury of love, joy, truth, peace, righteousness, kindness, honor, respect, gentleness, direction, hope, comfort, and fulfilled desire. Everything that you need for holiness and godliness is in the Bible. It answers every question and directs every path. The Bible is also a book of judgment because the day will come when the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ, will open it, evaluate your life by it and determine if you will spend eternity in Heaven or Hell.
Revelation 20:12 (KJV) says
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
The Holy Bible, then, is the most valuable book that has ever existed. We are very blessed to have such a valuable treasure chest that we can enjoy whenever we like. It is our roadmap to Heaven. Have you opened yours lately? Go ahead, knock the dust off and open the pages. Ask God to direct your search as you study its contents, and He will do just that. Many of you say that you want to know God better. Well, you get to know Him through His Word. God will speak to you from His Word if you allow Him to do so. Search for Him, and you will find Him in your treasure trove. Dive deeply into God’s treasure trove, and it will transform your life.
Jeremiah 29:13 (KJV)
13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
Ring! That’s your doorbell. This message is the announcement that your treasure trove is available. What will you do with it?
Let us pray. Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the immeasurable treasure that You have embedded in Your Word for each of us. Help us to appreciate the Bible’s value, for it is the revelation of Yourself for Your people. Our hearts are so grateful that You care enough to share Yourself with us through Your Word. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
