Follow Instructions

FGHT Devotions

My mouth watered as I smelled the aroma of freshly baked bread. I was so excited when the timer buzzed. I ran to the oven, eager to see how my first set of homemade rolls turned out, but that excitement quickly faded when I opened the oven door.

So many questions ran through my mind as I tried to figure out what I did wrong to cause my rolls to be as flat as pancakes, instead of fluffy and golden brown like the picture on the recipe.

“What could I have possibly done wrong?” I asked myself as I scanned back over the recipe.

There it was. Staring me dead in the face was the step that I overlooked. That one oversight caused me to prepare my yeast incorrectly.

I never tried my hand at baking rolls again after that experience, but I did learn a valuable lesson:

It’s important, not to just follow instructions, but to follow ALL of the instructions if you expect to get the desired results.

Proverbs 23:12 says,

Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

God’s Word is full of instructions that promise a guaranteed result, but so many times we fail to follow ALL of the instructions, and when we don’t get the results we were looking for, we tend to blame it on God and give up on Him altogether.

My advice to you is, “Don’t give up on God”.

Hebrews 10:35-36 says,

Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 1:20 that God’s promises are yea and amen. This means that God will answer YES to all of His promises!

So, Instead of giving up on Him, go back and read His instructions, ask Him to show you where you missed a step, fix your mistake, then trust and believe God for the outcome. Once He sees your obedience and faith, He’ll step in and do the rest.

Lord, help us to have a humble heart to yield to your instructions at all times. Help us to be obedient to the Holy Spirit’s guidance and follow where You lead. Once we have done Your will, give us the courage to remain patient as we wait for your promises to be fulfilled in our lives. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
